I don’t speak much on this topic. I have dabbled here and there. I even went so far as to post a fellow bloggers link on my fan page that caused an uproar, but I personally have never really spoken out on my stance. So here it is:
My mother and father were married. He was a drunk. He physically and verbally abused her. They divorced.
My mother remarried. He (my step-dad) had an affair. They divorced.
Oh, can I add in that my step-dad had already been married previous to marrying my mother. And divorced.
Since having an affair and divorcing my mother, my step-dad has remarried.
Is this what is considered the biblical definition of family?
I am not going to get into the religious debate with anyone. I will say this:
The only one who is allowed to judge is God and you are not Him.
What I don’t understand is why who I love has anything to do with another person.
How does my relationship with my husband affect you? How does a female in a relationship with a female affect you? How does a male in a relationship with a male affect you? Does it hurt you?
I’m going to venture out on a limb and say no because I know that having friends and family who are in same sex relationships affects me in no way, shape or form. It does not harm me or hurt me. It does not harm or hurt my children or my family unit so it sure as hell should not hurt you or your children or your family.
Who someone loves is none of your damn business. Period.
And while I’m up on my soap box, let me ask you this -
If a big company were to publicly say that they do not support a certain race, would you still support that company?
Why is this any different? It’s not.
If someone were to say that they did not support African Americans or Hispanics or Asians, people would be up in arms. They would not stand by and allow such blasphemy.
So tell me, why is it okay to stand by and support people who do not support same sex relationships? It’s the same damn thing.
Wait, you’re right, it is different. Because different races are free to choose who they love. They are allowed to be married. They are allowed benefits that heterosexual couples are provided.
Do you want to know what I call that? I call that hypocrisy and I do not support it.

I agree (of course) and I love that you pointed out the race issue. I’ve said the same thing! If someone said they didn’t support blacks marrying whites, or didn’t support mexicans being allowed an education, or some other right that we all take for granted, all hell would break loose. But because he stood up against my relationship, against all same-sex relationships and marriages, they set record breaking sales while their employees got to listen to how their customers “hated the gays” as well. It’s beyond ridiculous and I cannot believe we are still dealing with this bullshit in 2012. Thank you for standing up for what you believe in, for what is right, even though you may catch hell for it.
You said it best:
The only one who is allowed to judge is God and you are not Him

Well said. I 100% agree with you. I have several gay friends who are in long-term relationships or married and frankly they have better, happier, more committed relationships than many heterosexual people I know! I think it’s easier for people to not support gay marriage when they do not themselves have close friendships with gay people. I you have a gay friend, it is truly heartbreaking to know that many states in this country will not allow them to marry the person they love and it is particularly heartbreaking to hear the hatred that comes out of fellow Americans’ mouths about this topic.
Well said! I agree with you….I am not God! I should not judge! Gods Word says..”Judge not, lest you be judged yourself “. I too think it is hypocrisy! Promote the things you love instead of tearing down the things you hate! Thank you for sharing your views! Courage is a gift!
Well said, my dear!

Thank you so much for this! I agree 100%! Same sex couples don’t hurt anyone but my belief is that they can enrich your life by teaching you and your children about love and overcoming huge obstacles in order to be with the person you love. They can teach you that above all, above race, religion, gender and sexuality it is who the individual person is that should matter. That’s all I care about.
I cannot in good faith support anyone who doesn’t support equality in everything. I’ve seen the damage that people who are against equality can cause and it is devastating.
