Over the Moon: The Broadway Lullaby Project Supports Breast Cancer

While I am boycotting pink this year, I have supported the pink in the past and I know many people who continue to support the pink. (And while I share this post with you, I am still boycotting pink this year to stand up for the children.)

But, what better way to support the pink than by purchasing Over the Moon: The Broadway Lullaby Project for yourself, your children, or even a loved one, as this gift is a gift for all ages.

Over the Moon: The Broadway Lullaby Project

It’s often said that “a picture speaks a thousand words,” that “music is the universal language,” that “all the world’s a stage,” and that lullabies fill the special place where babies and those who love them come together.  With all that in mind, Over the Moon: The Broadway Lullaby Project weaves together the threads of music, art, and theatre in a collection of new lullabies to soothe and celebrate, comfort and heal, and give the gift of time.

Over the Moon: The Broadway Lullaby Project is both a timeless benefit effort and a uniquely compelling multimedia experience. The ambitious project—which incorporates a 2-CD, 26-song set; a lavishly illustrated hardcover book of 17 songs from the album; a corresponding e-book encompassing the entire collection; and a documentary film and web series —gathers many of contemporary musical theatre’s greatest composers and vocalists, as well as illustrators, all of whom have donated their talent to deliver an emotionally affecting set of new lullabies, some written specifically for this project.

This collection puts a fresh spin on the classic lullaby form, creating a warmly expressive song cycle that will touch listeners of all ages, while raising funds for respected breast cancer charities The Breast Cancer Research Foundation and Young Survival Coalition. The book, available separately, features 17 songs from the album with the lyrics illustrated by some of America’s most esteemed theatrical designers and children’s book illustrators, each offering a memorable visual interpretation of a song from the CD bound in the book.  The e-book includes illustrations for all 26 songs.

Over the Moon: The Broadway Lullaby Project has such a unique team of vocalists, composers, lyricists, illustrators, and other contributors.

The project was created as a way for Kate Dawson (a co-producer) to benefit breast cancer charities for her cousin Jill, who lost her battle with breast cancer in 2006 at the age of 45, leaving behind a husband and two young children. Her co-producer, Jodi Glucksman, who lost her grandmother to breast cancer and had a mother, mother in law, multiple cousins and friends as breast cancer survivors, and a sister in law who was a breast cancer surgeon; was moved by the idea and signed on.

Public Interest Projects serves as the fiscal sponsor for the Broadway Lullaby Project. Public Interest Projects is a 501(c)(3) public charity with a 25 year history of providing fiscal sponsorship for projects working toward a society that ensures justice, dignity and opportunity for all people.

I was very excited to receive this for my kids because both of my children like to listen to their cd players while falling asleep. We like finding them soft music to calm them to sleep and this cd was perfect (and it came with the book that was beautifully illustrated and had the words to the songs).

My kids and I thoroughly enjoyed the music that played and while I have shared the book with the children, I tend to keep it out of their reach to prevent any damage as the illustrations are just beautiful.

The children listen to the cd nightly as it calms them to sleep. It really is a great cd and book that benefits such an important cause that touches many lives.

  1. This looks like a beautiful book. I would love to see this book eventually be made into the other colors of cancer awareness. Cancer sucks, and it all needs to go away.

  2. I’m not boycotting pink but I’m trying to raise more awareness for the purple ribbon – Pancreatic Cancer. This looks like a beautiful book, though.
