As a blogger, I belong to a lot of “behind the scenes” blog groups. They help me become a better blogger as a place to share and learn.
As a mental health sufferer and advocate, I belong to similar groups. They too, help me by giving me a place to share and learn.
It is there, that I came across You’re Not Finished.
About You’re Not Finished:
You’re Not Finished was created to provide personal stories of hope, survival, and overcoming the obstacles so that you can know that you are not alone.. that you are not your problems… that you are not finished in this life. The stories you read are true testimonies of how people overcame suicidal thoughts and actions. They are living proof that it does it better.
Suicide is not the solution. It never is. The survivors you meet on this site learned that they were meant to live and have a true purpose in this life. They aren’t going anywhere because they are not finished, and neither are you. While getting professional help for your thoughts is encouraged, sometimes it is good to get reassuring words from your peers. We don’t just want to tell you it gets better, we want to show you.
I want to know what keeps you alive; whether it is therapy, living for someone you love, your faith, your family, your friends… Whatever keeps you going! Use your voice to help others realize how blessed they are and that they are here to love and be loved. As the creator of this site, I am here to make sure that you who are struggling with suicidal thought ALWAYS have someone to turn to, and that you know when it seems like there is no one who will support you and be there, this community will uplift you and bring you hope.
You’re Not Finished is not about the implication of the faint thought that MAYBE there is potentially something better for those who struggle with mental illness/mood disorders, it is supposed to display the truth that there is IN FACT more to what we can see in front of us because, created on purpose and with purpose, we are meant to live for more.
This was made for you.
For Suicide Prevention Month (September) and World Suicide Prevention Day 2013 (September 10th), You’re Not Finished is launching the “What Keeps You Alive?” Project.
If you follow on Twitter or check in on the page every so often I tweet what keeps me alive in order for others to think about what keeps them living and stay positive.
For the What Keeps You Alive Project, You’re Not Finished is asking that people send in a photo or video (20 seconds or less) saying what keeps you alive here. You can send it in via the contact form on the site or via yourenotfinished1 at gmail.
You’re Not Finished is going to put all the submissions together in an awesome video!
They have asked that people pass the project on to family and friends so we can keep the movement going and save some lives in the process. If you share on your social media channels, be sure to use hashtag #WhatKeepsMeAlive.
I sent in my submission tonight:
I can’t wait to see the finished project!
What keeps YOU alive?
