Lulupop rarely puts up a fuss, EXCEPT when it comes to wearing pants. Dresses, dresses, dresses, is all she will ever wear! With time, a little drama, and no lack of imagination, Lulupop realizes that wearing dresses is not always the best choice.
Such a cute book!
Lulupop is a girl, no doubt!
Isn’t always when you want them to do something that kids won’t; but when you don’t want them to do something, they do it willingly?
Lulupop did exactly that!
All week, Lulupop’s mom wanted her to wear pants – all for various reasons that we as parents know are best for our kids, but as a typical child, Lulupop wasn’t having it. She wanted to wear a dress and didn’t care (or remember) the natural consequences of not listening to her mom.
Every day, Lulupop defies her mom and every day, there is a natural consequence for her decision.
Towards the end when mom finally concedes to Lulupop, it is then that Lulupop doesn’t want to do as she has done the entire book! Yet, again, she defies her mom!
Only this time, Lulupop appears to have learned from the consequences and makes a compromise.
The artist, Alexandre Rouillard, does an excellent job with the illustrations.
The artwork is super cute and eye catching.
I couldn’t find a recommended age for this book, but as a parent; I would suggest preschool through maybe 3rd or 4th grade. It is definitely a book that preschoolers will enjoy being read to them with pictures to keep them interested and an easy enough book for the little bit older kids!

Author Interview
1. Pants! No Chance! Is about a little girl who refuses to wear pants and only wants to wear dresses. In the book Lulupop threatens to do all these quirky things rather than wear pants. Did your daughter ever threaten to “eat a bowl of spiders for breakfast or something similar?
No. My daughter never threatened to “eat a bowl of spiders for breakfast” but she used to throw tantrums over outfits on a daily basis. She was always pretty certain about her own sense of style. She’s now ten and with some exceptions, I usually allow her to choose her own clothes.
2. Do you think arguments over clothing are common amongst parents and small children?
So many parents have expressed to me that their kids throw fits in the morning when there is a disagreement over an outfit. It’s a common problem that in my opinion has not been addressed enough. Children have very little control over their lives and perhaps choosing their own outfits is one way in which they can express themselves.
3. What advice would you give budding writers?
Never ever give up. It took me seven years to find a publisher. I got so many rejection letters but I believed in my story and I decided that eventually someone else would too. Then one day, someone did!
4. What is the strangest thing that has ever happened to you?
When I was around twenty years – old, I came home to find a raccoon making himself at home in my house. When I finally got rid of him, I found a second raccoon between the toaster and blender on the kitchen counter. I wrote a story about it!
5. Any hobbies?
Writing is my hobby. I am also a runner and a workout junkie. My full time job is wife, mother of three and pet owner.
