Review: Letter Sounds DVD
I was uber excited when I got the opportunity to review the Letter Sounds DVD from
. My daughter is 6 years old in Kindergarten and is learning how to read. My son is 3 1/2 and is learning to identify his letters, sounds, etc.
My son, surprisingly, was the one who brought the Letter Sounds DVD into the living room last night and asked to watch it. At first, my daughter was not impressed, but before I knew she was engrossed in the movie. And my son, my son of all people, sat and watched it. What’s best- they watched it TWICE!
I have to admit, the graphics were a little silly and I initially, I wasn’t impressed, but before I knew- I was engrossed! I loved how everything had a rhythm (my kids and I are very musically inclined to using music with our learning definitely benefits us). The first part of the Letter Sounds DVD had an object, the letter, and a person’s mouth. The mouth stated the letter sound, the object, and then the letter sound again. It was great! The child was able to hear the sound the letter makes; see how a mouth says the letter sound; and associate the letter sound with an object.
There was another section that the entire sentence of words used one letter of the alphabet. It was fun to have my kids hear the sentence and then tell me which letter was used. Or at the end where three letter words would pop up and allow enough time for my learning to read 6 year old to read the word to me! I love this DVD!
I was checking out the website
and not only do they have the Letter Sounds like we watched, but they offer sight words (something my daughter is currently working on before she can advance to first grade); math; social studies; languages; test taking skills; and so on! How amazing is that! And it’s all learning with music (where was this when I was younger!?)
I highly recommend checking out
and seeing what could be of use to you and your child (children). I will definitely be stocking up on some more videos to help my kids with their learning! Especially my son who has never shown an interest in learning until this DVD! PLUS,
