How to Make: Sun Tea – Life as Leels

How to Make: Sun Tea

I have heard of tea. I drink tea. But the first time I saw my father in law put a tea jug on the roof of his house? I was clueless!

(A) I had never heard of “Sun Tea” until that day (which was probably a good 8ish years ago)

(B) It is a common commodity at my house now!

When hubby made is Sun Tea the other day, I made sure to document the event so I could share with you all, how to make Sun Tea!

What You Need:

A tea jug – we picked up this plastic jug at Target for like $7

Tea bags – any brand that you prefer

Water

Sun

Directions:

Fill the tea jug up with water.

Insert tea bags. Hubby uses 3 tea bags at one time. His dad prefers to use more. It is all a matter of how you like your tea.

Place the filled tea jug with water and tea bags outside in the sun for “a couple hours” (that was hubby’s directions)

Here is what his tea looked like when he first placed it outside:

He left it outside, on the wall of our backyard for most of the day (it was placed out there mid-morning and he didn’t retrieve it from outside until late afternoon). His tea was dark, but his dad likes it darker and tends to keep it outside for an entire day (morning until night) and gets an even darker tea. I have to personally admit, I don’t really know the difference (or if there is one) between the length of time it stays out in the sun. But here is his after:

Of course, you will want to refrigerate the tea before drinking or serve it over ice as it will be hot and enjoy!
