Book #Review of Kick the Past by @ReadLilyE

As teens, Gabriela Esperanza and Austin Ward exchanged rings and promised to love each other forever. But their promises, like their plans, didn’t survive engagement with their futures.

Years later, CIA Agent Ward must keep a prince from an unknown assassin’s crosshairs. Mercenary G. Esperanza won’t get paid until her target is dead. They’re both shocked to discover their lost love standing in the way.

As Easter approaches, the lovers wage their own personal war while a man’s life hangs in the balance. Betrayal, violence and passion erupt in Rome’s ancient streets. Can the magic of Sundae’s guaranteed sexily ever after save a life and heal the past or will they destroy each other forever?

My Thoughts:

First and foremost, I must warn the reader that this book contains content for adults. It was not

50 Shades of Gray

, but it was hot and steamy with adult language and adult romance.

The romance was great, but the relationship between G and Austin was the story. It’s high school love that promises a future, but contains two people going in two different directions. The relationship ultimately turns into the government versus hired killer.

The main story line is one that is suspensful and keeps you wanting more. (And I am happy to hear there are more books in the works!)

The prologue alone left me turning pages and wishing I could read faster to see what was happening, what was going on, and how we go from high school love to guns pointed in faces.

One thing I have to say really drew me in was that Austin and G aren’t hunky, hot, unrealistic characters (don’t get me wrong – college boy sounds attractive and G sounds like a very attractive, strong woman, but neither are so unrealistic that they feel they could only exist in my dreams.) The storyline wasn’t so far fetched that it wasn’t relateable either.

The characters, the storyline, the romance all made this a great book that I have already been telling my friends is a must read!

About the Author:

Lily Edwards is charming and lovable, a true delight. At least, that’s what the novelty mug she had as a child claimed. As a responsible adult, Lily charms the masses through social media and internet marketing. As a less responsible author, Lily writes stories of hot men, independent women and wacky family antics.

Lily lives in Colorado where she enjoys her view of the Rockies, drinking enormous amounts of coffee, feeding the squirrels and talking about herself in the third person.
