Lost Egypt Exhibit at The Arizona Science Center – Life as Leels

Lost Egypt Exhibit at The Arizona Science Center

Disclaimer: I was provided the opportunity to visit the Arizona Science Center and Lost Egypt exhibit through a campaign with
. All opinions are my own.

I have to admit, I am not one that gets excited when the word “science” is tossed around, but hubby and Buggy are. (Buddy is still too young to really know what it is.)

When we were invited by Blended Conference to attend the
exhibit at
, I was less excited than hubby and Buggy. I mean, really, history and science are not my forte.

Fortunately, I am thrilled that we went because I loved the Lost Egypt exhibit and actually learned quite a bit (that apparently my almost 3rd grader knew, yet I didn’t! I’m telling you, I did not pay attention in history class!)

Lost Egypt is an immersive quest for knowledge that reveals how archaeologists use modern science and technology to uncover and understand the ancient civilization of Egypt. Through hands-on challenges, authentic artifacts and guidance from real archaeologists, visitors will unearth the mysteries of Egypt, its culture and its people.

This interactive exhibit features a real human mummy and animal mummies, as well as scans, forensic facial reconstructions and for the first time ever, a life-size rapid prototype of a mummy in a stage of “unwrapping.” Visitors explore a re-creation of an Egyptian tomb, and authentic art and artifacts from the daily life and funerary culture of ancient Egypt.

Exhibit Highlights:

• A real human mummy and a life-size rapid prototype

• Animal mummies, plus scans and information about animals in ancient Egypt

• Art and artifacts from the daily life and funerary culture of ancient Egypt

• Connections to real scientists working on projects in Egypt

• Connections to the scientific process used by archaeologists and other scientists, including hands-on challenges, interactive exhibits and technology

• Connections to how ancient Egyptian people and culture relate to us today

There wasn’t much for the little one (age 17 months) in the Lost Egypt exhibit and Buddy (age 6) got bored (although other parts of the Science Center were fun for him).

Buggy (age 8) loved the entire exhibit and took part in participating during a live demo.

My favorite part was probably the live demo and learning how people were mummified – it was definitely the most interesting thing I have ever heard and am glad we no longer practice mummification!

I was very intrigued by the actual artifacts that contained hieroglyphics and was interested in the real life mummy, Annie, that they had on display.

The entire exhibit was very educational (probably mostly for me!) and had a lot of hands-on activities for the kids to partake in and learn.

The Lost Egypt exhibit is at the Arizona Science Center until September 1st and I am excited to share that Blended Extended is giving away THREE family four packs of tickets to attend!

The giveaway is open to Arizona residents only and ends on August 3rd at 11:59pm EST.
