Okay. I’m going to make another confession.

I let my kids watch way too much television. Okay, well, wait. Maybe not

way

to much, but I am guilty of using television so that I can get other work done around the house, blog work done, or my own homework done.

And as I am sure any parent can attest, children are like sponges – they absorb everything! Especially what they hear and see!

I know for us, both kids would pick up on the slightest behavior from television shows which resulted in no television or only Nick Jr. when the television was on. It put a real damper on adult television time (because let’s admit it – we all have our guilty pleasure shows. Mine include The Voice, Parenthood, Grey’s Anatomy and Chicago Fire).

Even at 7 years and 5 years, we are struggling with age appropriate shows that won’t result in disrespectful talk or crazy behavior.

Fortunately, I was introduced to

I was able to test Kidoodle.TV during beta testing and we all fell in love with it so I was super excited to use it again.

The one aspect I absolutely love about Kidoodle.TV is that everything is parental controlled.

I set up the account with my email, password, and parental code.

I was then able to set up a profile for each kid.

I was able to name their profile so they could see it themselves and pick a fun avatar for them. I got to choose the colored background for their “channel” which was neat because Buddy likes blue and Buggy likes purple so I was able to customize it further.

Additionally, I was able to choose from four different age groups: 0-2, 3-4, 5-8, and 9-12; each having a different set of age appropriate shows for each category.

For Buddy, I gave him a wider range. I selected ages 3-4 and 5-8 so it gave him shows that were still just below, at, and just above his level of television watching. With Buggy, I gave her the 5-8 age group and left out the younger and older selections because I didn’t think they were a good fit for her yet. I felt the younger age group she would consider “baby” and I personally wasn’t comfortable with the older age group (mainly because I was not familiar with the shows in the category).

The shows in Buddy’s age group included shows that he regularly watches – Super Hero Squad, Sonic the Hedgehog, Pound Puppies. Buggy’s were the same, but included a few more shows that were in the older category that Buddy wouldn’t be interested in.

What I really liked about Kidoodle.TV is that the shows are age appropriate and I can change them at any time. If I think one particular show isn’t appropriate, I can remove that one show from the selection or I can change the age category altogether.

Another nice feature is that if the kids are viewing, they cannot go into the parent room without my parental code. What does this mean? It means they cannot change which shows they watch or the age category of their shows without my code.

The only thing I missed seeing on Kidoodle.TV was Elmo or Sesame Street for the 0-2 category (only because I know the few times I have caught Lil Miss watching the television is during those shows).

Overall, I love that Kidoodle.TV is easy to use, child interactive friendly (bright colors, characters the kids recognize) with shows that are appropriate for my kids to watch.

Kidoodle.TV works on computers as well as Apple mobile devices. While we do not have Apple powered mobile devices, I would love to see this come to the Android powered devices so the kids can use it for when we travel.
