Dear NFL Commissioner,

Or maybe it is not you I should be writing, but I am sure you know people who know people who know people.

I attempted to find your email address to keep this “behind the scenes” but after searching high and low, I found no feasible way to contact you. I figured a public letter would be suited for this occasion and also show you the support that I know this letter will gather.

For the last couple of years, during the month of October, the entire NFL gets all decked out in pink for breast cancer awareness month – pink shoes, pink sweat bands, pink gloves, pink tape, pink towels – the NFL goes all out.

That is all well and good. That’s great! I love seeing sports support such a great cause.

But, what about the kids? What about the little ones who are also suffering who look up to the football players like they are heroes? How about showing them some support for their illness?

What about childhood cancers?

Were you aware that the month before breast cancer awareness month is childhood cancer awareness month?

Every September is designated for childhood cancers yet every year, I don’t see gold for the kids. I see pink for breast cancer, but no gold. Why is that?

With children idolizing the NFL players, I would think that an organization such as the NFL would want to do something special for the kids such as don the gold for childhood cancer awareness month. Don’t get me wrong, I am sure the NFL organization does do other awareness campaigns for kids, but it would be nice to see gold on our players during September supporting the kids. You do it for breast cancer, can you do it for childhood cancer?

It would lighten my heart to see gold shoes, gold sweatbands, gold gloves, gold tape, gold towels in support of the kids who suffer from cancer.

So how about it? September is gold and October can be pink?
