If so, you will understand this tutorial on DIY Shower Shoes (a fab way to #RecycleYourPeriodPad)

You know that Piper used period pads for shower shoes and Sophia recommended duck tape, right?

No joke, I couldn’t figure out why they didn’t combine the two for the best prison shower shoes!

And since we aren’t in prison, we can get cute duck tape and really stylize our shower shoes (although silver is stylish too!)

What You Need:

2 period pads – since you will be using
for light bladder leakage instead of your period pads, you have extra period pads laying around. May as well put them to good use, right?

Duck tape – pretty duck tape in any color or design that you want!

Directions:

My period pads are the super, extra long with wings. When I unpackaged it, I removed the backing and the backing from the wings and folded the bottom ‘end’ of the pad back onto the wings to shorten the ‘shoes’.

This extra padding will be for toe support.

If your pads are not super long, no need to fold anything; just use the pad as is.

Turn the pad, ‘pad’ side down (sticky side up).

I used 3 pieces of duck tape to cover the back length wise. (I placed the pad horizontally on my work space so I was taping the back horizontally.)

I placed the first piece of duck tape half on the pad, half off. I used the duck tape hanging off the pad to fold up and over, sealing the side.

The second piece overlapped the lapped the first; and the third overlapping the second.

All three pieces were longer than the pad so when I turned it over (pad side up, sticky side that is now duck taped, down) I could fold those pieces over, sealing the ends.

I repeated the taping process on the other side (the pad side).

To create the strap, I held the bottom piece of the shoe up to the foot to see where the strap needed to be for best foot coverage.

With that, I eyeballed the length of tape I needed. If I was smart, I would have measured the length from one side of the shoe, over the foot, to the other side of the shoe.

After cutting that piece of tape, I cut a second piece that was longer than the first.

I placed the first piece (the smaller piece) on top of the second, longer piece – sticky sides together.

Be sure to place the smaller piece centered on the longer piece. You should have sticky areas on either side of the taped together sides.

Starting with one side, attach the extra tape from the strap to the bottom piece of the shoe.

Curl across the shoe, allowing enough room for the foot, and tape the second extra bit of strap to the other side of the shoe.

Voila!

DIY shower shoes!

Better than Pipers period pad shoes, and more comfortable than Sophia’s duct tape shoes!

Be sure to purchase the new
pads for light bladder leakage, rather than using your period pads. Your period pads are for your period or for shower shoes!
