With Easter coming up, I thought I would share our Easter traditions. When I was younger, we would wake up early to find our baskets that were hidden by the Easter bunny. As a kid, our baskets were full of candy and goodies as well as one or two gifts that we wanted. I remember one year I wanted a baton (I took baton twirling when I was little) and sure enough, I got a new one in my basket for Easter one year!
After finding our baskets, we would get all prettied up and get ready for morning church (growing up we attended a Lutheran church). After church, we usually headed to family’s house for Easter dinner that consisted of the usual – ham, ham gravy, mashed potatoes, biscuits, etc. (I say etc. because I really cannot remember. I have not celebrated Easter with my family in 10 years.)
Now that I have my own family, we do similar traditions. The kids wake up and find their baskets. Although now that I get to be the Easter bunny, there is minimal candy and more gifts. (I usually do a movie, a stuffed toy, coloring stuff, etc.) We usually go to mass with the in-laws mid morning (Catholic mass) and then head to my in-law’s house for Easter dinner. The kids do an Easter egg hunt with plastic eggs filled with rocks and coins (I have weird in-laws!) and the Easter bunny leaves baskets for them at grandpa and grandma’s too.
I guess after all these years, I still try to keep tradition the same. What is your Easter tradition? You can see my
post for what other mommy’s do for Easter Tradition.
