I was offered the opportunity to review “Recovering The Self: A Journal of Hope and Healing (Vol. IV. No. 1) — Focus on Abuse Recovery”. This is a quarterly magazine with personal stories, poems, essays, and education on health related topics, with this issue’s focus on Abuse Recovery issues. There are other focuses as well:

I truly enjoyed my copy of “Recovering the Self: A Journal of Hope and Healing – Focus on Abuse Recovery”.
I have skeletons in my closet. Period. I have experience physical, emotional and verbal abuse from various people in my life during various periods in my life. And each of these people have impacted my life in one way or another by the way they treated me. In fact, one of the last people to abuse me emotionally and verbally changed me into a whole new person. I did a complete 360… and I don’t think I can ever go back.
What I love, love, loved about “Recovering the Self” was the personal stories both of the abuse, but mostly of how they overcame it. How they were able to move forward in life. There was so much hope and inspiration in the words that were written. Many of them were… I don’t want to say scared, but timid to share their stories, but they were such touching stories to read and see how they worked through it. How they are stronger now. What they have done to be able to live life to the fullest and be happy and be where they are today. One of my weaknesses is learning to let go, quit dwelling on the past and move on. “Recovering the Self” is definitely a reminder to myself that I can move forward and I am so grateful for the opportunity to review this book!
