March 31 Day Blog Challenge: Day 6
Day 6: Your last random act of kindness
Hmmm… let me think…
I am not great at the random acts of kindness deal, but I do try to pay it forward where I can. For me, that is generally by donating money. The last pay it forward I did was either to my sister who did a Polar Plunge or to hubby’s friend who is raising money for medical expenses.
My little sister is back home in Minnesota and was raising money for Autism. This past weekend, she and some of her friends jumped into the iced over lake as part of the fundraising efforts (Polar Plunge). Because she’s my little sister and because I support all things Autism, I donated to her cause.
Hubby’s friend from high school recently learned that he has cancer and has no insurance. Unfortunately, he needed surgery as soon as possible and was raising funds. We donated a large amount anonymously because frankly, if it were me or my family in that position, I would want help too.
I wish I did more random acts of kindness, but I do what I can when I can. I also like to take moments to teach the kids when I can to pay it forward to others who are less fortunate than we are.
For example, this past Christmas,
. I had the kids go to the store and pick out some toys that they really wanted and then I had them donate them to a home for children without families. We had a long discussion with them about where the toys were going, who they were going to, etc. Previous years, we have gotten an angel off the tree at the mall to purchase gifts for.
I think it’s important to not only pay it forward yourself, but to teach our next generation about paying it forward as well.
So tell me, what was your last act of random kindness?
