Growing up, as a family, we went “camping” twice.
The summer between my 6th and 7th grade year, we drove from Minnesota to South Dakota to Montana, through Idaho to Washington, down through Oregon to California, over to Nevada, through Arizona to the four corners (putting us in Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Utah all at once), up through Utah, through Wyoming, through Nebraska, back through South Dakota and back home to Minnesota. All driving. All with a pop-up camper. So, semi-camping I guess.
The following summer, we drove from Minnesota, through Iowa to Missouri where we spent a week in Branson, in the dead heat (and humidity of summer) in our pop-up camper. Again, semi-camping.
I didn’t actually “tent camp” until April of 2010.
Hubby and I needed a getaway and something cheap. We decided camping would be fun, left the two kids home with friends for the weekend, and together we went camping.
I had a blast and am dying to take the kids! (My new BFF goes twice a year so I can’t wait for Labor Day this year to join her!)
And now, I have the perfect accessory for when I go camping!
Grand Trunk’s Parachute Nylon Double Hammock
I am very proud to say that hubby was able to fit in it, comfortably, and without it breaking (hey, we are not small people by any means!)
He stated it was comfortable and he enjoyed himself relaxing in the hammock.
Although, I have to take a moment to make a confession. The pictures were taken at his parents’ house.
When I was provided the opportunity to try the hammock, we had two great trees in our backyard that would have been perfect. Unfortunately, days after receiving my hammock, a monsoon came through and took out our biggest tree in our back yard. With that, the maintenance guy not only removed that tree, but also two other trees. So, one monsoon took out three trees in our backyard thus rendering my house useless for the hammock.
So, pics at grandpa and grandma’s were called for!
Set Up
The hammock was beyond easy to set up. Seriously. Horribly easy. As in my 7 year old could probably set it up herself.
Literally took mere moments for hubby to set it up. Our biggest problem with set up was finding two trees spaced close enough together to set it up! Seriously! That was our biggest problem!
I love that the hammock is light weight. It comes in it’s own carrying bag that you just fold/stuff the hammock back into. There are 3 pieces – the hammock itself (the carrying bag is attached to the actual hammock) and two ropes – one for each side.
It really will be something that I can just toss in with our camping gear and it would take less time to set up the hammock than my tent (we don’t have much practice with a tent so it takes some time!)
Another thing I really like? You can fold it over and go to sleep! Buggy got up in there and was able to cover herself completely. She wrapped herself in a cocoon and I could totally see falling asleep under the starts, wrapping myself up if the bugs get bad.
This really is my new must have camping accessory!
What is your must have camping accessory?
Disclosure of Material Connection: I received a double hammock for free from Grand Trunk as coordinated by Deep Creek PR an
in consideration for review publication.
