Wow. I did a Google search on gifts for women and was shocked at what websites thought and said women wanted as gifts. Maybe I am the majority here, but the gifts for women I saw on the sites were far from anything I ever want as a gift!
Let me share a more realistic approach on gifts for women.
Gifts for Women
Flowers.
The woman (or women if you are buying for wife, mom, daughter, etc.) in your life may like flowers. Personally, I am not a big flower person, but if you are going to buy me flowers; please do not buy me roses! Not only is that generic, but they are expensive and die far too quickly.
Chocolate.
Again, may not be for everyone, but my birthday tends to be the time that hubby will seek out my favorite chocolate and bring it home. Seriously, there aren’t many women that don’t appreciate chocolate every now and again.
A card.
I don’t suggest this be the only thing you get her, but adding a card to the flowers and/or chocolate is a bonus touch. Especially a thought provoking thought card that you picked out yourself. Or do one better…
Love letter.
Yes, you read that write. Write a love letter. I have always been a letter writer, especially love letters. The very few love letters I have from hubby are probably one of the most cherished possessions I have. Seriously.
Spa time.
A massage. A mani or a pedi. A trip to an actual spa (I assume those are a thing?) A gift card to any of these I am sure would be appreciated.
Jewelry.
Earrings, a necklace, a bracelet, a ring. Tip? Pay attention to something she has been hinting at wanting. A few years ago, hubby bought me a necklace. The first piece of jewelry (and last) he had bought me since my engagement ring. I absolutely appreciated the thought of it, but the necklace was not the one I had been telling him I wanted. Yes, I was a little disappointed, but like I said; I appreciated his thought and the gift all the same.
This year, I was asked if I would like to receive a customized bracelet from
for Valentine’s Day. Who am I to say no?
Susan Dubown Designs provides custom wrist wraps that are made with leather and have a magnetic closure for ease of putting it on (I won’t see ease of taking off because 9 out of 10 times, I have had to have someone help me take it off! A good thing since I know it won’t come off while wearing it!)
I received two wrist wraps – a ‘snake’ skin wrap that fits around my wrist twice, and then a single wrist wrap that is a ‘milky way’ color. (It isn’t solid black, but black with silverish streaks.) My single wrap has an ‘XO’ charm on them and I have to say – I am in love!
I am not typically one who likes to wear things around my wrist, but I opted for the
so they sit perfectly and are not a nuisance. And paired together they look gorgeous! I am incredibly happy with my wrist wraps and they would make a fabulous gift!
Favorite Beauty Product.
Growing up, my mom used Oil of Olay all the time so for holidays and gift ideas, that was dad’s fall back. It was something she used daily so why not?
Collectibles.
My mom used to collect Nutcrackers and then moved to the Oreo holiday tins and now Snow Babies. I am a Betty Boop collector. If your special lady collects something; get her something to add to her collection.
Perfume.
Her favorite scent. Especially if it is an expensive bottle.
Technology.
As a blogger, I am all about the tech. A new phone or a really good tablet or laptop would make me a happy woman!
Small appliances.
Does she have a wish list of small appliances? Does she love to bake? Love to cook? A juicer, a stand mixer, a toaster oven, a blender… all are small appliances that I have recently purchased in the last couple of years (well, not a juicer… yet!)
Miscellaneous Ideas…
If you know her well enough to know what kind of purse she likes. For me, a purse is a sure fire win.
If you know her favorite makeup brand and or the makeup she does wear daily, that is a great gift. If you aren’t sure, a gift card to her favorite makeup store is a win (think Sephora, Ulta, etc.)
If she is a reader or has a list of books she wants to read, buy her one of those books. If she is a reader, but you aren’t sure what she is reading; get her a gift card to purchase her own books.
If she loves to bake or cook, get her items that she can use while doing that. Advice though; if she doesn’t like too cook or bake and it’s not a hobby of hers, this can be received quite negatively.
If she is a coffee drinker, you can purchase her a new coffee maker; a new mug; a gift card to her favorite coffee location.
Her wish list.
I mean really. If she has been asking for something for quite some time, chances are that she is hinting at what she really wants. If you listen, I am sure she has hinted at something at one time or another.
Anything handmade.
Especially if you have kids! Handmade products are always from the heart and are so much more meaningful than a gift card or some item you just grabbed.
I don’t find that women are hard to shop for (could be because I am a woman) but really knowing her likes and dislikes will definitely help you find the perfect gifts for women!
