A Shade of Vampire

is a Young Adult Paranormal Romance by Bella Forrest. While the genre describes “young adult”, I can tell you that as an “old adult”, I enjoyed this book.

On the evening of Sofia Claremont’s seventeenth birthday, she is sucked into a nightmare from which she cannot wake. A quiet evening walk along a beach brings her face to face with a dangerous pale creature that craves much more than her blood.

She is kidnapped to an island where the sun is eternally forbidden to shine. An island uncharted by any map and ruled by the most powerful vampire coven on the planet. She wakes here as a slave, a captive in chains.

Sofia’s life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn when she is the one selected out of hundreds of girls to join the harem of Derek Novak, the dark royal Prince.

Despite his addiction to power and obsessive thirst for her blood, Sofia soon realizes that the safest place on the island is within his quarters, and she must do all within her power to win him over if she is to survive even one more night.

Will she succeed? …or is she destined to the same fate that all other girls have met at the hands of the Novaks?

My Thoughts:

When I first started reading it, I got a bit of a

Twilight

feeling. Then, after a few pages, I got a little bit of the

True Blood

feeling. Honestly, I think I got these feelings because there was reference to something that reminded me a little of each series and I will admit, I was worried that I was going to be reading something that was going to be a spin off of both.

Fortunately,

I was wrong.

Aside from the few references (literally, there were maybe two or three references that reminded me of

Twilight

and

True Blood

) the book was original – it wasn’t anything I had read before and I tend to read quite a bit of the paranormal romance. It has become to be one of my favorite genres.

I really enjoyed reading

A Shade of Vampire

and hated that it ended. Furthermore, I hated that there will be more and I don’t have them i my hands right now! I will be one of the first in line to get continuing stories of

A Shade of Vampire

because I really did not want the story to end and cannot wait to see where it goes.

Overall, I would have to say this was one of the best paranormal romance books I have read in quite a while and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading paranormal romance.
