I began my blogging journey July 29, 2011. It has been a long, interesting journey. I have learned a lot and continue to learn. I am always on the look out for new things to learn to better my blog and one of my goals for 2013 was to do just that – better my blog.
When I was provided the opportunity to review Blogging for Smarties: Blogging for Authors and Speakers, I have to admit, I wasn’t informed it was for authors and speakers. (But, I think it is a good guide for those who do not label themselves authors or speakers as well.) I jumped at the opportunity because I figured there was oodles more to learn and I am ready to learn.
About Blogging for Smarties:
The Internet is often the first place that people turn to for information about anything and anyone. Company addresses, information about a person, and reviews about a company are a click away. Potential visitors rely on the Internet to learn about specials, book releases, events, and information. Your website is your storefront and it enables you to reach a global market. Having a website that supplies this information is a necessary component of running a business.
As an author and speaker, the Internet becomes a business channel to network, advertise your products and services, and build a following on a global level. Learn how to create your first blog, effectively market your blog and create passive income opportunities in our new ebook, “Blogging for Smarties Blogging for Authors and Speakers,” which will walk you through the steps of building an extremely effective website.

I have to admit, being more of a seasoned blogger, I did not find this to be incredibly helpful to me. I already know how to start a blog; I know that WordPress is the best platform; I know how to use WordPress; I have most of the plug-ins that were recommended; I am pretty good with the syndicating and the social media and getting my name out there. I don’t feel I personally benefited from this book.
On the other hand, I do highly recommend this for someone who is wanting to start a blog, is new to blogging or is on Blogger and contemplating the switch to WordPress. I think this book is a great tool for newer bloggers.
In addition, hubby, who is not a blogger, but a podcaster, really enjoyed Chapter 9. Together we picked up some great pointers for his podcast show (that has recently taken a back seat, but we are hoping to revive it).
So while I say that this book wasn’t for me, I do see it being a book that I will recommend to those wanting to start a blog or are newer, and hubby and I will be putting Chapter 9 to great use in the near future.
