I am not a big holiday person in general, but for Halloween, I always like getting the kids together and making our own decorations to put up on display in the house!
It’s so much more fun to decorate and celebrate when it’s personal and handmade!
This year, because the fashion trend of chevron is growing on me, I decided to make a decoration that can be used all throughout fall – for both Halloween and Thanksgiving – so I give to you:
Chevron Pumpkin Craft
Supplies:
Pumpkin
Paint
Foam Brush
Patterning Tape
I purchased a smaller foam pumpkin from Michael’s; red, yellow, orange, black, and brown acrylic paint; foam brushes and patterning tape to create my pumpkin. (I had the white acrylic paint at home already.)
What color pumpkin, size pumpkin or paint colors is all up to your creative flair!
Directions:
In hindsight, after I started painting of course, hubby suggested we should have sanded the pumpkin. The glossy coating from the pumpkin create a minor issue with painting, but with a second coat, it wasn’t as noticeable.
If you want to sand your pumpkin, now would be the time to do it. If not, just know you will probably need at least two coats of paint.
Next, using the patterning tape, tape off your lines. I had every intention of making my lines look like a pro – perfectly measured, perfectly pointed, perfect. Fortunately (or unfortunately for my perfectionism) it did not work out that way. I went with the flow and it turned out great!
*Idea!* The patterning tape I purchased was two rolls – one was thinner than the other. I alternated thin tape and thick tape for every line.
After you have your lines taped of, pick your paint and get to painting!
After it is all dry, pull off the tape. It will give a nice effect of color, pumpkin, color, pumpkin!
You can use darker colors for Halloween themed, fall colors for fall, Christmas colors for Christmas, Valentine colors for Valentine’s Day or spring colors for Easter! You can have a chevron pumpkin for every occasion!
