Day 20: How important you think education is.

How important do I think education is?

Well considering I graduated from high school ten years ago and have spent the last four years of my adulthood achieving my Bachelor’s degree and will spend my next three years of adulthood achieving my Master’s degree, I believe it is very important, especially in today’s day in age.

Once upon a time, you could get a great job with just a high school diploma. By the time I graduated high school, a Bachelor’s degree was good. Now days, you have to have a Master’s degree if you want into any high profile type professional job. I witnessed it first hand six years ago. You could have the job with a Bachelor’s, but if you wanted the fancy title and pay, you need a Master’s.

Now, I do not necessarily agree that every individual is ready to go straight from high school into college. I sure wasn’t. My mother pushed me to go straight from high school into college, but I didn’t last. I barely made it through a semester and ended up dropping out half way through the second semester. I needed that time for myself to explore. To be an adult and to see what I wanted to do with my life.

It took longer than expected (six years), but I got it together and went back to school.

I do believe that if you want to make strides, you need some type of post-high school education to back you up in today’s job market. Its just the way it is.
