Are you feeling brave? Old abandoned mines can be a bit creepy. They’re downright spooky around Halloween! Some folks say the old Clay Mine is haunted! Only one way to know for certain. You’ll have to check it out for yourself! Park at the Nature Center. Hike over to the Clay Mine. A guide will escort you into the mine, but beware! The guide may be possessed! We have to lock the spirits in for the night at 8:30pm, so don’t be late! Bring a flashlight and water for the easy to moderate hike out and back (1.8 miles round-trip). Not recommended for kids under 10. No pets, please!

Bring the kids out for a spook-tacular evening! Trick or treat in costume along a luminary-lit desert trail (1/2 mile, barrier-free*), listen to spooky stories around the campfire, play themed games. Learn fascinating facts about the real creepy, crawly creatures of the desert by exploring various Creature Features along the trick-or-treat trail. This fun, safe family event will be held at Area 4. This event is supported by the Friends of White Tank Park. *The Black Rock Short Loop Trail is designated as barrier-free (level grade, unpaved, wheelchair and stroller-friendly).

Saturday – Dress up in your Halloween costume** and join us as we set out on a desert exploration at night to search for these fascinatingly fluorescent creatures. We will use a trail that is suitable for wide-wheeled strollers and travel just over a mile. This is our last Scorpion Hunt of the season so be sure to join us! Please wear closed-toe shoes, bring plenty of water and a black light. Black lights are also available for purchase inside the Visitor Center. Meet at the flagpole. **Please make sure your costume includes trail-appropriate footwear and allows for free range of motion!

Ghosts of all ages are invited to kick off the Halloween season with this fun event! Wear a costume for our quarter-mile journey through the dark desert. Our “Ghost Rangers” will judge the best child, teen, and adult costumes. We’ll also see some live animals and listen to Ranger B’s funny-spooky stories around the bonfire in our amphitheater (along with a free marshmallow roast!). Please bring a flashlight and closed-toe shoes. Groups call ahead, and no pets please. Location: Nature Center.
