Healing Sunburn – Life as Leels

Healing Sunburn

I am white. I am 75% Irish so sometimes, I think the term “white” is an understatement.

Me and the sun? So not a match. Five minutes in the sun and I am no longer white. I am red. And I’m talking red as a lobster. No joke.

Unfortunately, my entire little family is very fair skinned so sun burn in Arizona is inevitable! (It’s July and I don’t think I’ve even had a sunburn yet – that’s a record!)

With being as fair skinned as I am, I have done plenty of healing sunburn tips and I’m here to share them with you!

First and foremost –

aloe vera gel

. It works wonders! Aloe vera gel chilled in a cool place (such as the fridge) – heavenly on a burn.

As a teenager, I experienced a burn so bad that I could not wear clothes or move well due to the pain. A family friend used a cotton ball and

vinegar

to dab on the burn to pull the “sting” (burning sensation) from the burn itself. It was a lifesaver!

Buggy went swimming at a friend’s house a few weekends ago (multiple times in the span of 15 hours) and came home with a burn. We put

10 drops of Lavendar essential oil in 4 ounces of water

in a spray bottle and sprayed it on her burn. By that night, she was no longer in pain and by the next day, she was completely fine.

Additionally, you can use equal drops of

lavendar with fractionated coconut oil

to rub onto the burn (or just plain lavendar essential oil for severe burns). Add

peppermint

to bull out the burn.

I have also heard that after you steep

tea bags

, if you place them on the burn it will reduce the burn feeling.

Remember:

After a burn, continue to drink a lot of water. It will help rejuvenate your skin.

Stay out of the sun after a burn.

If you blister, DO NOT pop the blister! This can lead to infection!

You can take Tylenol or another over the counter pain medication to help reduce the pain.
