We have been experimenting with our
and decided to make homemade pizza with rice flour.
So I have an admission. Aside from the fact that I was clueless as to how easy it really is to make your own flour, I seriously did not realize that rice flour is simply white rice or brown rice ran through a grain mill! Seriously – it is that easy! (Yes, I am still kind of in a state of shock at how easy it really is!)
And I have to admit – I think Baby Girl had fun with the process too!
Okay, so on to the easy homemade pizza with rice flour.
First thing first, you will want to make sure you have already made your rice flour. Which, as I mentioned, easy peasy. Pour your rice into your grain mill and crank that baby on if it’s electric or crank your arm if its a hand mill!
Next, preheat your oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.
If you have a stand mixer, you can use your mixer (that’s what we used), otherwise a medium bowl and a sturdy wooden spoon will do you fine.
In your mixing bowl or in your medium bowl, you are going to dissovle one (1) 0.25 ounce package of active dry yeast (if you happen to have yeast in bulk rather than a package, 0.25 ounces is equivalent to 2 and 1/4 teaspoons) with one (1) teaspoon of white sugar and one (1) cup of warm water (approximately 110 degrees Fahrenheit). Let that stand for approximately 10 minutes or until creamy.
Next, we’re going to add in 2 and 1/2 cups of your rice flour, two (2) tablespoons of olive oil, and one (1) teaspoon of salt.
Using your dough hook or your sturdy wooden spoon, mix until smooth.
Let rest for 5 minutes.
At the end of the 5 minutes, pull your dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Pat or roll your dough into a round.
Transfer your dough to a lightly greased pizza pan or a pizza stone dusted with cornmeal.
Spread on your desired toppings – sauce, pepperoni, sausage, cheese – whatever you like on your pizza. We did a tomato sauce, pepperoni, mozarella and colby jack cheese.
Bake in the oven for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown.
Remove from oven and let the pizza cool for approximately 5 minutes before serving and enjoy!
