March 31 Day Blog Challenge: Day 7 – Life as Leels

March 31 Day Blog Challenge: Day 7

Today’s topic is

what is your dream job?

I really do hate this question because I promise you, it changes all the time. I just don’t know what I want to do with my life and it shows.

Growing up, I always wanted to be a teacher. In fact, when I graduated high school, I started attending the local community college back home to work toward my degree of becoming a teacher. Fortunately (or unfortunately?) I wasn’t ready for college, I dropped out and my decision to become a teacher fizzled.

I then decided I wanted to work in substance abuse and began attending college again in the fall of 2007 in psychology. I obtained my Associate’s degree as well as my Bachelor’s degree in psychology and am currently working towards my Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling. While I am still leaning toward substance abuse, I am also leaning towards trauma as well as suicide survivor work.

In one hand, I would love to work with soldiers who return home from overseas and help them get re-introduced to life outside of war to help decrease the number of suicides that occur among our military members.

On the other hand, I would love to start a non-profit that the local emergency personnel call out to a suicide to help the family deal with the situation. Losing a loved one to suicide is hard and it is so much different than losing a loved one to an accident or natural causes. I would love to help a family through the first few days of dealing with the trauma that comes with suicide.

At the same time, I am content with what I am doing. The pay isn’t great, and it’s not really a career, but I enjoy working part time outside the house, blogging and being a mommy to my three little ones. I have tried the stay at home mom deal and it is not for me, but that 15 hours per week that I get to get out of the house is just what I need to rejuvenate and I’m happy doing what I’m doing.

All I know is that one day, I’ll grow up and find just the right place for me!
