On the 3rd Day of Christmas… Coping with the Loss During the Holidays
Some of my readers know that I have suffered great loss in the past 2 1/2 years. My grandfather completed suicide in May 2009 and in May of this year, my father passed away.
Holidays have always been a difficult time of year for me, but more so since the loss of my grandfather. Fortunately for us, he spent his last Christmas with us at our home. Now, during Christmas, I have started a new tradition that I “borrowed” when I attended the National Day of Suicide Survivors last year.
I purchased two large candles such as these:
I light both candles and then blow one out, but keep the other lit. It is a way to remember and honor those that we have lost.
What special thing do you do for loved ones no longer with you during the holidays?
