In preparing for baby #3’s arrival, I have been thinking a lot about what to pack. I also am a part of several mommy groups right now with some first time moms who ask the same question, so I have compiled a list of what non-first time mommies suggested to bring:
* Bathroom stuff (shower stuff, toothbrush)
* Yoga pants or something comfy (I suggest a bathrobe as well)
* Slippers and/or socks
* Boppy (if you’ll be nursing)
* Baby clothes (if your hospital does newborn pictures, you’ll want an outfit for the picture plus a going home outfit)
* Lots of snacks for you and hubby
* Camera (and charger just in case)
* Sleep nursing bra (I didn’t realize I needed a bra until I put one on to go home…the nursing tank just didn’t cut it)
* Lansinoh or Motherlove nipple cream (again if you plan on nursing)
* Cup with a straw (unless your hospital provides a sweet cup, mine just provided a tiny little cup and a pitcher of water)
* Your own pillow (in a colored or patterned pillowcase)
* The baby book for foot prints (make sure your hubby gets the footprints!)
* Cell phone and charger
* Pacifiers (if you don’t like the hospital provided one)
* Vaseline or olive oil for cradle cap and for baby bottoms (it helps loosen the yucky poos of meconium the first days)
* Lotion (ever since Buggy, my hands get dry and crack really easily)
* Chapsticks
* Daddy’s toothbrush
* Something to read or a word search/crossword/suduko book
* DVDs
* Cards for entertainment
* “Grandma” underwear
* Nursing pads (if you plan on nursing)
* Camcorder and charger
* Jenn from
had a great one – an outfit for dad!
Remember to purchase pads (super heave overnight ones) for home. The hospital will provide you with supplies while you are in their care, but you will need some for home!
A few ladies suggested witch hazel pads, tucks and/or burn spray for relief as well.
Don’t forget to have your car seat properly installed and check with your local fire department or police department to ensure it is installed properly. You will not be allowed to leave the hospital without a properly installed car seat!
Did I miss anything I need to add? If so, leave it in the comments and I’ll add it to my list!
