Tips from the Readers: Facebook Fan Pages
As a blogger, I find that I can gain a lot of readers through Facebook, but I also find that I can engage my readers better by having conversations with them on Facebook. One thing that we bloggers have found is that we get an influx of likes during a giveaway (naturally), but when the giveaway is over, we start losing fans.
I asked my fans:
“What makes you “unlike” a page after liking it whether you like it as part of a giveaway or for some other reason? What is the tipping point that causes you to “unlike” the page?”
And these are just a few of the responses I got from my lovely readers:
“They post stuff over and over I have no interest in- I have so many posts these junk posts get in the way of things I want to see.”
“When people start bickering back and forth or if there is stuff on the page that shows there is no class.”
To clarify, I asked:
“When you say ‘post stuff over and over again’ – what do you like to see? Giveaways? Real content posts? Reviews?”
The response was:
“If there is stuff posted that seems like it’s fraudulent or not what it really seems it is.”
“For a raffle I had to like a page that is into selling body wraps to loose inches. I was surprised to see them affilited with my other sites but I have seen them linked to a couple of others- must be a scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours kind of thing.”
For clarification here, I must share with my readers that giveaways are put on by all walks of people – businesses and bloggers alike. There is a lot involved in putting together a giveaway and at times, we have sponsors that provide the products we are giveaway, hence you might find different types of business listed when entering a giveaway.
“When people/pages post way too much… I have liked pages before because of giveaways and then the pages post like 10+ times a day and that when im like bye.”
“When I first started entering giveaways a few months ago I liked all these new fb [Facebook] pages and was overwhelmed by similar posts by different pages and that irritated me a little bit because they were flooding my wall. To be honest though after a while the posts started alternating and I was catching posts I had missed previously by other pages that were being posted later. I’ve not unliked but maybe 1 page but that was because the host was a bit of a jerk and wouldn’t respond to posts or questions.”
“Now I enter giveaways yes to win the prizes but also I really enjoy liking the new pages/blogs/g+/fb [Facebook] pages because there are alot of great pages out there run by great people and I love the interactions because I don’t have a whole lot of people in my area that I’m friends with and this is a great way to connect to other people and other parents.”
“Too many posts in one day annoy me. I like daily posts, but too similar, or just not important make me unlike. I enjoy reviews and giveaways and occasional jokes or random thoughts.”
My thought is this:
If it bugs me to see it, I’m sure my readers will not appreciate it. I try not to flood their walls all day long. I try to keep the content relevant. I try not to spam them with affiliates or posts that will inevitably benefit me, but not my readers. I keep my perspective as a reader when posting on my own wall.
Think of what makes you unlike or hide another person’s page and try not to do that to your readers!
