Sean Astin – actor from Goonies, Lord of the Rings, Rudy (the voice of Special Agent Oso and the brother in 50 First Dates) – is beginning Season 2 of his political radio show for “the occasionally interested people” on May 1st on a new network,
. (His show airs on Thursdays from 12-2pm PST.)

His interest in politics and representing the people’s voice is infectious, and he genuinely wants people to understand what is happening with the government, even when it seems too complicated. Whether you are or aren’t interested in politics, he offers an intellectual discussion and doesn’t just want to be heard, he wants to hear the people and their concerns, all while keeping it civil.

I have to admit, when it comes to actual politics, I am fairly clueless. And while this may make some people angry, I have a confession:

I avoided all politics and never even registered to vote until right before the last presidential election.

Not only was I not knowledgeable about politics, frankly I just didn’t care. The little I did know was summed up pretty easily:

I had my thoughts and opinions (very strong ones might I add) and they didn’t align with anything anyone else was saying so why waste my time.

I really did think that way. (Keyword: did)

Over the years I have found myself dabbling more and more in politics and trying to learn and understand. I have thoughts. I have opinions. To me, they are common sense, but apparently not when it comes to politics. (And for the record, I openly admit that I am a very strong opiniated woman.)

I still would say that I am clueless by way of the reality of politics (both historically and currently) but that doesn’t mean I am not trying to learn.

Personally, for me, I look forward to May 1st and listening into Vox Populi and learning. I enjoy thought provoking conversations that can be discussed in a mature manner (and can agree to disagree).
