Winter Frost (A Chris Matheson Cold Case Mystery Book 2) by Lauren Carr

After reading

ICE

, book 1 in the Chris Matheson Cold Case Mystery series; I was excited to see what book 2 had in store for us!

Disclosure: I received this book to review through iREAD BOOK TOURS, I have volunteered to share my review and all the opinions are 100% my own.

It all started with a chance encounter in the city with Blair, his late wife.

Chris Matheson and the Geezer Squad, working under the guise of a book club, dig into the events surrounding his late wife’s supposed death halfway around the globe. A state department employee shoots himself in the back three times. A CIA operative goes missing. A woman is targeted by an international assassin three years after being declared dead in a terrorist attack overseas.

Nothing is as it seems.

In his most personal cold case, Chris fights to uncover why the state department told him that Blair, the mother of his children, had been killed when she was alive. What had she uncovered that has made her a target? Who terrified her so much that she had gone into hiding and why are they now after him?

My Review

.

I read book 1 so I had background before starting this book, but I feel confident in saying that you could read this book without having read book 2.

Not only does Lauren give you a list of the characters at the start of the book so you know who everyone is; she does a great job giving enough information to fill you in without boring someone who has read the first book and knows the details.

This book was a fun puzzle. I was able to figure out certain clues before the characters in the book, but the overall mystery was still suspenseful and left me guessing. Not to mention, the book links us to Mac Faraday who is a Lauren Carr character from his own series (which I have read a few of).

Personally, I think I liked this book the best. It was definitely more action packed, more suspenseful. It felt more corrupt with bigger players and of course, was even closer to our hearts because it revolved around Chris’ wife Blair and her death.

We still got the same loveable characters (including Sterling who is making me want a German Shepard) and the Geezer Squad members.

The Chris Matheson series has reminded me how much I have enjoyed Lauren Carr’s mysteries in the past and that I should continue reading them!
