His Secret Life by Kim Cano {Book Review} – Life as Leels

Disclosure: I received an ebook copy in exchange for my review.

Gay men don’t fall in love with women. Do they?

Philip is a gay man working for a conservative corporation. After his recent promotion, he needs a date for a company function and asks his sister’s new roommate, Emily.

Emily is an actress, waiting tables while starring in local plays and hoping for her big break. She agrees to be Philip’s date for the party, and soon they are attending one event after another together.

Philip and Emily click on many levels. Lines blur as the people they pretend to be start feeling like the people they are, causing a rift with Philip’s boyfriend Jason.

When Philip no longer works for the company, he doesn’t need Emily to play the role of his girlfriend anymore, but to his surprise, he can’t let her go.

My Review

I am a firm believer in my own beliefs (ha! That’s quite a way to put it!) and I am a proud supporter of

most

people and that includes the LGBT community. (If you haven’t already caught on to what this book is about – let that be your cue.)

I fell in love with this book the second I started reading it. I completely understood Philip. I wasn’t happy with it, but I completely understood.

When his sister started talking about her friend who dated Philip and had her heart broken – all I could think of is how our heart decides who we love. We have no control over that. We have as much control over how we feel for people as we do about who we are born to. And boy does this book drive that home.

I have always enjoyed reading Kim’s work and

His Secret Life

was no exception!
