THE SONG is a music-driven romantic drama about things we all pursue—love and meaning.

Movie

Aspiring singer—‐songwriter Jed King is struggling to catch a break and escape the long shadow of his famous father when he reluctantly agrees to a gig at a local vineyard harvest festival. Jed meets the vineyard owner’s daughter, Rose, and a romance quickly blooms. Soon after their wedding, Jed writes Rose “The Song,” which becomes a breakout hit. Suddenly thrust into a life of stardom and a world of temptation, his life and marriage begin to fall apart.

About

THE SONG was filmed on location in Nashville and Kentucky – known for Americana music and family. Both figure heavily in the film. Music is more than a score in THE SONG, it is the backdrop from which the story unfolds. Viewers who love American music, indie singer-songwriters or dream of the allure of the road, will especially love THE SONG.

Produced by a top-notch group of story tellers who believe in love, faith and family, THE SONG is opening nation-wide including resources to strengthen couples and families.

The beginning of the movie starts with Jed’s father, mother, and bandmates. In my opinion, this beginning definitely sets the tone for the rest of the movie. As much as you hope the present learns from the past, history tends to repeat itself.

Personally, I have to start by saying that this is a definitely a trigger movie.

Suicide, self harm, and drug abuse are parts of the movie line.

For me, the movie was difficult to watch and I almost turned it off a couple times. It hits far too close to home on a variety of subjects.

The love story and romance is cute and was enjoyable to watch. Once we made it past the father’s ‘story’ and got to Jed’s story – it was great, but it quickly spiraled out of control – much as Jed’s life did.

Jed’s story reminds me a lot of Elvis. Or maybe Johnny Cash. A little of both, really.

I am not sure if it is the lack of religion in me, but I really did not get the ‘religion’ or ‘spirituality’ in the movie.

God was mentioned a time or two, as was a character’s belief in God.

Jed believed that his songs were written by God and that he gave him the songs and could take them away, but outside of that, I personally did not get a lot of religious undertones and I was believing I would (which I don’t mind).

All in all, it was a good romance movie that is a typical famous person goes to top of mountain and then rolls down head first for making poor decisions.

Had there not be the suicide, self harm, and frankly, for me personal – Shelby and her bewitching ways – it would have been a lot more enjoyable.

If you are not triggered by suicide, self harm, or drug abuse – this is a good movie to watch, really.

For someone that can potentially be triggered, I recommend moving past this option.
