I have shared several times since January 1st that one of my big goals this year is to be more healthy. That means eating healthy, exercising and working toward my weight loss goal.

I do have to share, since Lil Miss was born, I have lost 40 pounds (I only gained 20 when I was pregnant with her so I’m down an additional 20!)

I was thrilled when I jumped on the scale last weekend to see that, but I still have 56 pounds that I need to lose so when I was picked to work with Walgreens on this sponsored post for their Step with Balance Rewards program, I was more than excited – I was thrilled! It is just what I need to kick my butt into gear and be accountable – I’m earning points which means earning money!

I signed up for Walgreens Balance Rewards in the fall so I had my card and have already linked it to my online account (which is also linked to the app – which is a whole other story to share because I love the ease of that app!)

You can sign up for the Step with Balance Rewards program in the store or online. I choose online and it was super easy.

You go to their
and click “get started”.

After clicking “get started”, you will be taken to a sign in or register screen. If you already have an online account with Walgreens, enter your information to sign in. If you don’t, that’s okay. You can register for free on the site.

It will let you pick a screen name to use and then it will take you to your activity journal where you can log your weight daily and set your goals. In addition to your weight, you can also record measurements.

I set my goals for weight, walking, and frequency. (I skipped running because I am by no means a runner!)

My Goals:

Walking:

Since I am still on restriction from having Lil Miss and haven’t actually exercised in quite some time, I am starting myself off slowly so my walking goal is 1000 steps per day. When I achieve this with ease, I will increase it with a goal of getting up to 10000 steps per day.

Frequency:

Again, due to restrictions and not having exercised, I am starting with 3 times per week, but would like to work up to 5 days a week.

Weight:

My goal is to lose 56 pounds.

After I set all these goals, I noticed I earned myself 270 points – just for setting goals!

Now that my goals were set, I needed something to help keep me on track of my goals. I needed a pedometer so I could watch my goals and keep myself accountable.

I’ve never had a pedometer so I was definitely in need of one.

I was lucky enough to find pedometers at my local
. In fact, I found quite the variety of pedometers. Hip pedometers, pocket pedometers and even pedometers that looked like watches.

I picked out three different hip pedometers that had caught my eye and compared their features (you can see what pedometers I compared in my Google Plus album here). I wanted something that would do more than just count my steps and was please when I found this one:

This one will not only measure my steps, but distance, calories burned and fat burned so I can keep myself on track.

Oh, and if you already have a device that you use to keep track of your weight loss progress, you can link it up on the Steps with Balance Rewards program so you don’t need to input data twice – you can just sync them up! How neat is that!

I am super excited about my new pedometer (seriously, I had to even show my in laws yesterday) and my journey to a healthier me! I promise you will be seeing more about my journey as I move forward to making myself – and my family – healthier in 2013!
